Better Luck Next Season, Steelers!

By Scott Burks
The Pittsburgh Steelers' season is over.
Fin. Kaput.
That's what happened after my Steelers lost
yet ANOTHER game to an inferior opponent, the Oakland Raiders (the
RAIDERS?!!) on a touchdown pass in the final seconds from immortal QB Bruce
Gradkowski to WR Louis Murphy.
What makes it hurt some more is that it was
the fourth loss in a row for my Steelers. That loss dropped the
Steelers to 10th place in the AFC. With four more games to go, that
will be too much to overcome.
So, who's to blame here? I could say bad
coaching (could someone please fire offensive coordinator Bruce Arians'
ass?), but the blame rests at the feet of the defense. The Steelers
either had leads or ties heading into the fourth quarter in all but one game
this season (the Ravens game). The pass rush has not been as
productive as last season's, and the secondary just plain sucks without
All-World safety Troy Polamalu. How that secondary allow big days from
Oakland and Kansas City wide-outs this season is beyond baffling.
I tell you what, the Steelers need to either
draft or sign free-agent playmakers for its secondary in the off-season.
Sure they need help and youth along both the offensive and defensive lines,
but that secondary flat-out sucks.
Now if you excuse me, I'm going to prepare my
vomit basket for when my Steelers lose to those damn Cleveland Browns...
