Lessons Learned in NFL's Week 13...

By Scott Burks
Here are my thoughts on Week 13 in
the NFL...
My Pittsburgh Steelers aren't making the
playoffs. Read all
about it here...
We will have two undefeated teams this season.
The Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints may make this look easy.
The Colts easily dispatched the Tennessee Titans last Sunday (so much for my
"Upset Special" last week). The Saints may have struggled with the
Washington Redskins, but the Saints were able to do what good teams do --
find a way to win and take advantage of mistakes made by an inferior
opponent. Both teams have seemingly easy schedules to close out the
season. The Colts' toughest opponent is a road date in Jacksonville
next Thursday night, while the Saints' lone challenger is a fading Dallas
Cowboys team at home in two weeks. Look for history to be made this
season...
The NFC is better than the AFC.
This is not even close. Let's first examine the records of the
division leaders. The unbeaten Colts and Saints aside, the best record
in the AFC belong to the Bengals and Chargers at 9-3, while the best record
in the NFC belongs to the Vikings at 10-2. The worst record among the
division leaders in each conference are the Patriots (7-5 in the AFC), the
Cardinals and Cowboys (both 8-4 in the NFC). If what they say is true
about one being as good as its weakest link, I'll take the surging Cardinals
over the under-achieving Patriots anytime (never thought I'd say that).
Speaking of the Patriots...
The New
England Patriots are simply not that good. There is no reason why
the Patriots shouldn't be running away with this division. No other
team in their division could touch the Patriots in terms of talent.
Losing to the Saints is one thing, but choking last Sunday's game away to
the Miami Dolphins was laughable. While they should win out the rest
of the season, you never know. Just ask my Steelers...
