Notre Dame Didn't Have to Rush

By Scott Burks
I guess the Fighting Irish wasn't playing
around in their coaching search after all, deciding to act sooner rather
than later.
Notre Dame hired Cincinnati's Brian Kelly to
coach its football team, filling the void left from the firing of Charlie
Weis' fat ass. While I may agree a little with the hiring of Kelly, I
do think Notre Dame would have done better if the school would have waited.
I also am not cool with Kelly leaving when he
did. Can you imagine what the players in Cincinnati are feeling right
about now? If you let them tell it, they're pissed -- and I do not
blame them. It's almost as if they feel jilted by their coach before
they play the biggest game in the school's football history: a date against
one-loss Florida led by Tim Tebow.
Getting back to Notre Dame, I think if they
were a little patient, they would have gotten the coach of their dreams.
I still think that if they backed the Brinks truck to Urban Meyer's crib in
Florida, Meyer would have jumped at the chance. I also think the same
with Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and former NFL coach Jon Gruden. While
Kelly is not a bad hire, the Irish could have done better.
Sometimes, haste does indeed make waste...
