Knight Was Right in Calling Out Calipari

By Scott Burks
I've always
respected Bob Knight as a coach and what he did for college basketball, but
I've had some issues with his actions (him choking a player, and what he
said about women and rape).
For once, I agree
with him one something.
During a
fundraiser for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, Knight lamented the lack
of integrity in college basketball. He took a swipe at Kentucky coach
John Calipari, openly questioning why in the hell did the university hire
Calipari despite leaving his previous two stops (UMass and Memphis) on
probation.
Well said Coach
Knight!
Here's why I
thought Knight was in the right for saying what he said about Calipari.
Knight was one of the few -- if not the only -- coach who can honestly say
ran a clean program (no violations) and graduated his player (over an 80%
graduation rate).
As for Calipari,
here are my thoughts. First of all, UMass had to vacate their wins for
their Final Four season in 1996 because of things that happened under
Calipari's watch (former star Marcus Camby getting paid). The same
thing may happen in Memphis because shading recruiting practices while
obtaining Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans.
Calipari did the
right thing in taking the high road in rebuking Knight's remarks. He
better, because it's hard for a coach who appears to be a snake (Calipari)
to snipe back at a coach who did it the right way (Knight).
