The Pro Bowl Sucks

By Scott Burks
In case you
missed it (or even cared), the Pro Bowl was played last Sunday. That's
right, played a week BEFORE the Super Bowl outside of Hawaii.
There are so many
thing wrong with the Pro Bowl -- it prohibits blitzing, doesn't encourage
tackling. Why the NFL chose to muck it up even more by moving the game
BEFORE the Super Bowl is baffling to me.
First of all,
players who will not be in the Super Bowl does not want to be anywhere near
the site of the game unless they have to. Could you imagine being
around all the hype that you could be enjoying if your team didn't suck so
bad? Now imagine having to see players from other teams enjoy it and
having to sit through it all -- especially if one of those teams beat yours'
to get there.
The Pro Bowl does
not always have the best players playing in the game. Look no further
than the AFC where Tom Brady, Peyton Manning (Super Bowl participants do not
play), and an alternate in Ben Roethlisberger did not play. That left
the AFC with the triple threat of Matt Schaub, David Garrard, and Vince
Young at quarterback.
If the NFL is
insistent on having this worthless game being played, why not incorporate a
skills competition of sorts? Why take it out of paradise (Hawaii)?
That's why players show up in the first place.
Don't make
something that is already bad even worse. Oh, who am I kidding?
The NFL needs to take the Pro Bowl out back and shoot it.
