Not His Brother's Keeper

By Scott Burks
"Am I my
brother's keeper?"
"Hell naw..."
That's what Jay
McGuire, former MLB slugger Mark McGuire's younger brother, is thinking
these days after writing a "tell-all" book that hit the stands a few days
ago.
Look, I'm not
going to go into the sordid details of the book where Jay describes the
manner of which Mark came to him and wanted his brother to shoot him up with
steroids in order to keep up with the Joneses. Never mind the fact
that Jay also used while he was a body-builder because he wanted to be "swole"
like his big brother Mark.
The notion of a
sibling selling out another to push some books is troubling to me. I
do not care how mad I ever get at my younger brother (if he became famous or
infamous), I would never, EVER throw my brother under the bus the way Jay
did Mark -- and vice versa.
Jay not only
violated the "brother code", but the all-important "MAN code". Men do
not rat each other out -- to their spouses/significant others nor the media.
Mark now is
reportedly saddened and wants nothing to do with his younger brother.
That's good news for Jay if he is ever concerned for his safety in the
future.
