Lessons Learned from the 2008 College Football Season

By Scott Burks

Tim Tebow is the best college football player in 2008.  Tim Tebow is the best in college football.  His performance last night only enhanced his legacy.  He was unstoppable last night against Oklahoma, just like he was all season long.  He can run, has become a better passer, and has evolved into one the best on-field generals in the game.  The kid can do it all.  Now whether Tebow can parlay that into a successful NFL career is debatable.  As for now, I think we are witnessing the best player in college football in this generation.

The BCS should welcome the Mountain West Conference with open arms.  First of all, I one of those a-holes who thinks that college football does not need a playoff.  Every game during the regular season matters as a result.  Having said that, the BCS needs to make the following adjustment: the BCS needs to invite the Mountain West Conference to the party.  In my opinion, this is long overdue.  The last five seasons proved that the MWC can hang with the big boys, thanks to Utah, TCU, and BYU.  That alone should enhance the computer rankings of a Utah, TCU, and BYU when the BCS comes out, thus improving their chances of competing for the national title.  To think that the ACC and Big East has priority over the MWC is a travesty (more on that later).

The SEC is the strongest college football conference.  Florida's convincing win over Oklahoma in the BCS title game proved once and for all that the SEC is the premier football conference.  Oklahoma's offense appeared mystified by the speed of Florida's defense.  It didn't help that Ole Miss (a middle of the pack SEC team) spanked Texas Tech (one of the better teams in the Big 12) in the Cotton Bowl.  One last stat: the SEC finished 6-2 in bowl games, the most wins by any conference in the bowl games.

The Big East should revoke their BCS card.  The Big "Least" is the weakest major college football conference in 2008.  The best it had to offer was a weak-ass Cincinnati Bearcat team that was spanked by not-so-strong Virginia Tech team in the Orange Bowl.  The Pitt Panthers, the second-best team in the Big "Least", was beaten 3-0 by a so-so Oregon State team.  3-0!!!  Are you kidding me?  The Mountain West Conference would run circles around this alleged football conference.  Hell, maybe Utah's Attorney General should sue the Big "Least" for misrepresentation.

Your feedback is wanted!!!

What do you think?

Right on!
You're so full of crap!!!
We can agree to disagree...

I like the analysis--- but I like the Eagles over the Giants.... And I would not be
shocked if the Ravens are still playing next week.
