Lessons Learned in NFL's Wildcard Weekend...

By Scott Burks
Here are my thoughts on the weekend that was:
NFL Wildcard Weekend...
Watch out for the wildcard teams in the AFC.
The Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets issued beatdowns of epic proportions
last weekend. The Ravens beat the dog piss out of the New England
Patriots (whoo-hoo!) 33-14, ushering what should be the end of the Patriots'
mystique. Meanwhile, the Jets embarrassed the Cincinnati Bengals on
the road 24-14.
One thing I like about the Jets, they talk a lot of "-ish" and tend to back
it up on the field. Chalk that up to coach Rex Ryan, who is the son of
a legendary "-ish"-talker in Buddy Ryan. I have a rule which states
that if my Pittsburgh Steelers are not in the playoffs, I pull for the New
York-based team(s) remaining. The Jets are my only hope.
The Dallas Cowboys are dangerous.
These are not your 21st century Dallas Cowboys. Not only did the
Cowboys win in December, but won their first playoff game in 15 years in
convincing fashion. Their 34-14 beatdown of the Philadelphia Eagles
made me think that the Cowboys might be the best team in the NFC. The
Minnesota Vikings have a tough "out" on their hands in the next round.
The Cardinals-Saints game will be the best game
of the divisional round.
Nothing says exciting football like having two teams with explosive offenses
going against each other. The Cardinals' offense hung 45 points on
what was the #1 defense in the league this season (the Green Bay Packers)
with ease. New Orleans can score at will on almost anyone. If
this game doesn't exceed the "over" by at least 20 points, I will be very
disappointed.
