Arenas Suspension Should Have Been Longer

By Scott Burks
Looks like Agent
Zero caught a break. A HUGE break.
NBA
Commissioner/warden David Stern suspended Washington Wizards guard Gilbert
Arenas (along with fellow fool Javaris Crittenden) for the remainder of the
season without pay. Word is that Arenas was able to negotiate the
suspension down to around 50 games.
I think that
Stern should have stuck to his guns and suspended him for a FULL season (82
games). That would have done two things: 1) make the suspension last
into next season, and 2) hurt Arenas' chances to catch on with another team.
The way it stands
now, Arenas will an easier time signing with another team next season
(depending on the judge's sentencing, of course). And while Agent Zero
will not be able to command a lot of money (the Wizards should have his
contract voided by then), the young brother still has a lot of talent.
As the saying in sports goes, "no matter how much of a screw-up you are,
you'll always have a job if you can play".
Let's just hope
that these young brothers have enough sense to learn from yet ANOTHER
athlete's firearms mistake (more on that in another rant)...
