Holla Back: the End of June Edition

By Scott Burks
This is the first
in a series of "Holla Back"s at the end of each month where I respond to
readers' comments on some past rants. I picked the more
meaningful/memorable comments to respond to.
So without
further ado...
Kobe Is Still not the Greatest Laker

Klownchild. One bit of correction. Magic was NOT always "the Man" on his
teams. They were Kareem's teams the first few years. That finals MVP Magic
got his rookie year came solely from that one game. (You forgot Magic's 7
assists, by the way) :) But I know you are right with Magic being the
greatest Laker (as well as the greatest player of all time.) I would put
Jerry West a close second (He's the greatest GM of all time, and one of the
greatest players too.) Then Kobe. I'd rank Kareem and Wilt higher, but they
both had a lot of accomplishments before they got to LA. Especially Wilt.
Shaq's best years were in LA, but the Lakers are just one stop of many for
him. For Kareem and Wilt, they were the last stop. Other Laker greats,
Worthy, Elgin Baylor, Cooper, Rambis(for his heart, not numbers), Scott,
Mikan, Fisher (4 rings, can't forget), Jamaal Wilkes, and more. It is a
tough call, because LA has had more greats come through their doors than any
other franchise. You could put together a 12 man roster that no other team
could match. Not even Boston.
It is true
that LA has more than its fair share of legends roll into town. And as
much as I love Derek Fisher, I still would not consider him a Laker great,
merely because he was not a star on those teams. As for Shaq, he was
the alpha dog on those three championship teams. Kobe benefitted from
riding his coattails. By the way, I agree that Magic is the greatest
player of all-time.

Good list. Hard to argue Magic and West at 1 and 2. I would definitely
have Kareem at #3. He seems to be overlooked somehow but he could do it all.
Wilt should be ahead of Shaq. NBA players have to add to their game to
remain effective in their 30's. Shaq didn't do this at all. Kobe deserves to
be ahead of Shaq due to his work ethic and that he's a lifetime Laker.
Wilt vs.
Shaq was such a tough call. Wilt was clearly dominant into WELL into
his thirties (unlike Shaq). I just think
that Wilt was more of a complementary player when he arrived in LA. As
for Kobe, he could have the work ethic of Jesus the carpenter, I still would
not rank him ahead of Shaq for the reasons I already mentioned.

you are so stupid it's ridiculous lol
Thank you very
much Kobe for taking time out of busy schedule to holla at me. Memo to
other feedbackers, if you pose as a celebrity as you post, you are a LOSER.
Haynesworth Is a Very Selfish Bastard

Comments:
Snyder
definitely overpaid on Haynesworth. You just never know what a players going
to do when he gets $20 million up front. Some still play as if their life
depended on it because they love the game and competition. Others cash that
check and act like they have more important things to do than study or play
football with any intensity. An owner can't promise to play a certain
defense; that's up to the coach and the owner can't tie a coaches hands like
that. Instead of getting an unenforceable promise, Haynesworth should have
had an additional bonus put in if the team switched defenses.
Well, how about just leaving the football
business to the football people. "Danny Boy" Snyder, as always,
screwed up this signing. Other folks around the NFL knew that "Obese
Albert" would not work as hard as soon as he signed that big money deal.
For some reason, Danny Boy didn't see it that way.
No Props for the NCAA FINALLY Doing its Job

Taking away
scholarships is the stupidest punishment you could ever dream up. 30 kids
won't get an opportunity to go to college and make a better life for
themselves because of something Bush and Mayo did? A much better solution
would be to take the scholarships away from football and give them to other
departments, like engineering, business, agriculture, science, etc. Let
Bush, Mayo, Carroll and others set up an endowment to fund the scholarships
personally. Now you're making the actual perpetrators pay for the "crime"
instead of someone who was 12 years old at the time of the incident. JAG
Which is why the
NCAA should hit the administrators who were the perpetrators in this whole
mess. The problem is, the NCAA cannot touch cats like Carroll and Bush
since they moved on to the NFL.

Yes, I hear
you. I understand that the NCAA can force Reggie Bush to fund the
scholarships. But I bet if you brought this to him, he would agree. It's a
chance to atone, seek redemption and put this behind him with his head held
high. Going to his house and taking his Heisman off his trophy shelf is just
political grandstanding that helps no one. JAG
Well said JAG.
Time for the World Cup!

If we (the
USA team) do well enough I may ask for your address so I can send you a
jersey! See if you wear it then... Hope you and yours are doing well, go
USA!
Well Jason, looks
like I won't be getting that Team USA jersey, eh? I wouldn't mind
rocking Brazil's though...
Where LeBron Will Play Next Season...
Name:
Joshua Pick
Comments:
He's not
going to a 12-70 team. He will ultimately go back to Cleveland, where Dan
Gilbert will put all the cards on the table. Don't be surprised to see CP3
playing in Cleveland next year...
He may not go to
Jersey, but why in the hell would LeBron go back to Cleveland? last I
checked, they don't have a coach, nor a GM, and the players are nothing more
than 8th-seed caliber.

people are
so funny when they are like the nets have the best chance of winning with
him they couldnt even make the playoffs with out him. im not a chicago fan,
but i think they will have the best chance to get him and to win with him,
they make it in the playoff without him and do okay, just put him on the
team and they will win and win alot, dont bring this MJ garbage into this he
wouldnt mind if after he wins a championship. No body will say anything and
if they do he shouldnt listen to him, the bulls havent won anything for them
since MJ did so they should be happy to get one back.
Nice to hear from a builder lol! At any
rate, Chicago does have the talent to give LeBron a good chance to be a
contender. I just think that is Michael Jordan's town, and nothing
LeBron will do would be ever good enough for those fans. Those
excellent fans would constantly remind LeBron of that. Plus, I do not
think LeBron's ego would take that.
