Enough with the Yankee Hating!!!

By Scott Burks
Now that my New York Yankees have won the
World Series, a lot of the haters have come out all corners.
"The Yankees bought their World Series title."
"Too bad other teams don't have a chance
because they do not spend as much as the Yankees."
"WAAH! WAAH! WAAAH!!!"
Here's the deal. While the Yankees did
have the highest payroll in the majors ($200 million plus), the Yankees are
not the problem. Major League Baseball is the problem.
MLB is the only major sport with no salary
cap. This allows "big market" teams such as the Yankees, New York
Mets, Los Angeles Angels, the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies, and
Boston Red Sox to take advantage of added revenues to add precious talent.
Other teams do not have as much room for error in spending the money in the
right places. In fact, some of those disadvantaged teams pocket the
money received from the luxury tax violators instead of spending it on
talent.
Having said that, all the Yankees are doing is
taking advantage of the system. If teams like the Pittsburgh Pirates
and Cincinnati Reds had such advantages, they'd be spending that money as
well -- trust me on that.
So it's time for all the haters to quit
they're whining and hope that MLB will implement a salary cap to even the
playing field. As we say on the streets, "don't hate the playa, HATE
THE GAME!"
