Thoughts on Week 11 in the NFL...

By Scott Burks
Here are my thoughts on Week 11 in
the NFL...
It was a bad week for the AFC North.
The AFC North took four big ones on the chin. First, the Cincinnati
Bengals choked away a game to the sorry-ass Oakland Raiders 20-17.
Earlier in the day my Pittsburgh Steelers inexplicably gave away a game to
another sorry team in the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime 27-24. The
hated Baltimore Ravens turned themselves over en route to a 16-15 loss to
the unbeaten Indianapolis Colts at home. And the finale: the Cleveland
Browns' last-second loss to the Detroit Lions 38-37, which could go down as
the most exciting game of the year. While the Browns do not matter in
any playoff scenario, those losses are crippling to the other three teams in
the division. The Bengals are playing for a first-round bye, and the
Steelers and Ravens are playing for their playoff lives.
Ladies and gentlemen, here come the Tennessee
Titans! Who would've thunk
it? The Titans have won their fourth straight last night over the
Houston Texans (sucks for them) after starting the year 0-6. The
Titans are playing their best football the last four weeks, and can point to
two things. First, the Titans are FINALLY healthy. Their
defensive backfield is intact, and are finally making plays. Second,
allow me to take all the credit in the world for
convincing
the Titans to start Vince Young when things started to go south for the
Titans. Hell, if Bud Adams listened to me, what took coach Jeff Fisher
so long?
Brett Favre is
the NFL MVP this season.
I was one of the guys who tired of the Brett Favre drama from the
off-season. I didn't buy into the Favre hype, and privately hoped he
fell flat on his ass this season as he did last season. Having said
all of that, Favre has to be the runaway choice for NFL MVP. Favre has
21 touchdown passes to just 3 interceptions! Heck, in Sunday's game
against the Seattle Seahawks, Favre completed 22 of 25 passes for 213 yards
and 4 touchdowns. I can honestly say that Favre -- not Adrian Peterson
-- is what makes the Vikings go on offense.
So with all due
respect to Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees, the NFL MVP award is
Favre's to lose right now.
The Denver Broncos are who we thought they
were. The Broncos got
their asses kicked by the San Diego Chargers last game and lost their
division lead in the process. The Broncos have not picked a worse time
to play their worst football. They are banged up, in-fighting, and are
constantly searching for answers. Let's face it, we knew the Broncos
would be all that successful this season. The defense played way over
its head, and the team as a whole were playing out its mind. It's just
that the Broncos are not that talented. Give credit to coach Josh
McDaniels for making the Broncos believe in him and themselves.
However, good coaching can only get a team so far that's not talented.
The New
Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts may be unbeaten, but they are not the
best teams in their own conferences.
Those teams would be the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC and New England
Patriots in the AFC, respectively. The Vikings are the more
well-rounded team in the NFC right now. They have the offense,
defense, AND special teams clicking on all cylinders. Keep in mind the
Vikings' lone loss was to my Steelers thanks to two defensive returns for
touchdowns.
In the AFC, the
Colts may have the record but the Patriots have proved they can go
toe-to-toe with the Colts last week. Let's face it, if it weren't for
Bill Bellicheat's brain-locked decision to go for it on fourth down, the
Patriots would have won. The Colts may have home-field right now in
the AFC, but I think the Patriots are in their heads.
