Lessons Learned in College Football's Week 6...

By Scott Burks

Here are my thoughts on Week 6 in college football...

The Cincinnati-South Florida clash this Thursday night should determine the beast of the Big East.  It's fitting that what may be the premier Big East game of the year will have a captive national audience Thursday night.  Both squads are unbeaten and thinking big.  Whoever wins this game will be the team to beat in the Big East.  While Pittsburgh is improved, I do not see the Panthers beating UC nor USF.

The Big Ten (11) is overrated.  Despite Ohio State's win over Wisconsin, the Buckeyes' offense did not look good.  QB Terrelle Pryor and the Buckeye's offense looked shaky at best -- they were out-scored by their defense!  Speaking of Wisconsin, talk about a fraud.  The Badgers came into the game with a 5-0 record, mainly off the likes of Northern Illinois, Fresno State, Wofford, and an overrated Minnesota team.

Meanwhile, Penn State continued to get fat off of weak foes, this time over Eastern Illinois.  Michigan is not as good as I thought, losing again to a quality opponent in Iowa.  Heck, I think Iowa is the best team in a bad conference.  Simply put, the Big Ten is just not any good.

This should be the last season for Bobby Bowden.  As a fan of Bowden's it hurt me to type that last sentence.  The fact is that Florida State has lost its mojo the last few seasons, and in losing back-to back-to back games Bowden has lost the Midas touch.  It should be official once the Seminoles lose to Florida the last game of the season.

Florida, not Alabama, deserves to be the top-ranked team Florida took care of business in Baton Rouge against 4th-ranked LSU with a banged-up Tim Tebow.  That alone convinced me that Florida is the best team in the country.  Alabama will get their shot against Florida in the SEC title game.  For now, it's all Gators, all the time...

Norte Dame will get its ass kicked by USC next week.  I've been looking forward to this game since Norte Dame coach Charlie Weis kept shooting his mouth off about his team getting no respect -- despite beating the juggernauts Nevada, Purdue, and Washington.  Maybe after the Irish get their asses kicked by the Trojans, Weis will shut the hell up for good.

Your feedback is wanted!!!
