Lessons Learned in NFL's Week 5...

By Scott Burks
Here are my thoughts on Week 5 in
the NFL...
Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne will be a star in
the NFL. That was one
helluva game last night. Both the Dolphins' and Jets' offenses came to
play, and gave us a 4th quarter to remember. While Jets rookie QB Mark
Sanchez is already proving to be a stud, Dolphins second-year QB Chad Henne
had his coming-out party last night. He, unlike injured starter Chad
Pennington, has an arm. Henne displayed amazing touch on the
play-action bomb to Ted Ginn, Jr. and on that 3rd down out to Rich Camarillo
(the "Dream Killa") on the game-winning drive. Henne showed that he is
not afraid of the moment. I guess those 10 years he played at Michigan
served him well...
The Cincinnati Bengals are to be taken
seriously.
This is hard for me to type as a Steelers fan, but I really like the Bengals
this season. I liked the way Cincy went into Baltimore and nabbed a
win with that last-second TD pass from Carson Palmer to Ander Caldwell.
I liked the way Cincy's D showed up and stood up to the challenge. I
liked the way the Bengals running game put a clown suit on Baltimore's
vaunted D by having Cedric Benson become the first 100-yard rusher against
the Ravens in 40 games.
The Bengals are 3-0 in the AFC North right
now. Factor in the road wins in Baltimore and Cleveland, the Bengals
are officially in the catbird's seat in the division. What a
difference a year makes...
If the New
Orleans Saints beat the New York Giants Sunday, they'll be the team to beat
in the NFC.
This is my favorite type of match-up: the best offense against one of the
best defenses in the league. I'll give the edge to the Saints because
they will be playing at home, and I do not think the Giants will be able to
match the Saints firepower.
As for the
Vikings fans who feel dissed by my suggestion that this game will determine
the team to beat in the NFC, let me explain. As much as I love your
Vikings' D, I do not like your offense being able to do the following:
-
Out-score the
Saints in a shootout and
-
Run the ball
on the Giants
Case closed.
It's time for the Titans to give Vince Young a
look (Take 2).
The Titans are not likely to return to the
playoffs. They are 0-5, and got their asses whupped by the Colts in
the process. It's time to end the Kerry Collins
era and start Vince Young back at QB. Hell, what else do the Titans
have to lose (other than more games)?
Tom Cable and Jim Zorn are dead men walking.
Both Cable and Zorn are responsible for their underachieving teams (the
Raiders and Redskins, respectively). The Cable guy is about to be
popped (no pun intended) for allegedly punching out one of his assistants.
To make matters worse, his Raiders are playing in the same undisciplined,
unfocused fashion. I'd be shocked if Cable makes it through the
season.
Meanwhile, Zorn is the captain of a sinking
ship. The talented (and over-priced) Redskins are fading fast.
That loss to the Panthers was absolutely horrible. How in the hell
does a team lose a 17-2 lead in the fourth quarter against an 0-3 team?
First the loss to the Detroit Lions and now this! I think we should be
getting ready for the "Mike Shanahan as new head coach" press conference in
Washington in the offseason.
