Thoughts on Week 2 in the NFL...

By Scott Burks
Week 2
of the NFL is in the books. Here are my thoughts on what transpired.
Jay Cutler redeemed himself.
Jay Cutler got the boo-birds off his back for a week. He threw two
touchdown passes, and NO interceptions in a 17-14 stunner over my Pittsburgh
Steelers. He did a good job finding his tight ends, and took what the
defense gave him. When Matt Forte and running game comes around,
Cutler would stand a better chance of playing within himself. But for
now, so far, so good...
The New
York Jets are the new Baltimore Ravens. What's not to love about
the Jets' attitude? In fact, what's not to love about a team that has
the stones to punk the New England Patriots? The Jets backed up all
the smack talk Sunday, resulting in a 16-9 victory that left the Patriots
battered and bruised. Thanks to the additions of coach Rex Ryan and
Bart Scott, the Jets have acquired the Ravens' swagger -- and that's not a
bad thing. Looks like there is a new bully on the block in the AFC
East.
The Denver Broncos are a fluke.
Do not be fooled folks. The Broncos are 2-0 merely on the strength of
beating the Cincinnati Bengals on the fluke play of the century and the
sorry-ass Cleveland Browns. Anyone who thinks the Broncos are for real
are simply not paying attention. I had the Broncos at no more than 5
wins, and I still think that is the case. Look for them to lose to the
Oakland Raiders next Sunday.
The Saints are VERRRRRY scary.
Will anyone hold the Saints under 30 points? After all, they hung 45
and 48 points on the Lions and Eagles, respectively. Say what you want
about the Lions being the Lions and the Eagles not having Donovan McNabb as
reasons for the Saints' juggernaut. While I may give you the Lions,
scoring 48 points on the road in Philly is nothing to sniff at. If the
Saints' defense continues to be decent (not stellar), then the Saints may be
the team to beat in the NFC.
It's looks to be a long season for the
Panthers (take 2).
Looks like Jake Delhomme did not throw a bad interception against the
Falcons -- hell, at least that's the good news. The bad news is the
Panthers lost that game and fell to 0-2 behind the unbeaten Falcons and
Saints in the NFC South. It is hard enough to overcome an 0-2 start.
It is even harder to climb out of that hole if that team is in one of the
best divisions in the NFL. To make matters worse, the Panthers will
travel to Dallas to play a pissed off Cowboys team for Monday Night Football
next week. Hello 0-3...
